NCMF commissioner urges 2012 MSU grads to uphold excellence

by Franklin P. Gumapon

DIPOLOG CITY, April 15 (PIA) - - Commissioner Moner M. Bajunaid of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) told this year’s graduates of the Mindanao State University (MSU) in Marawi City to always work for excellence as “alumni of one the best schools in the country.”

Speaking in the baccalaureate program held on Thursday at the Dimaporo Gym, MSU, Marawi City, Commissioner Bajunaid advised the graduates to keep themselves smart, humble and unafraid.

To be smart, he said, one must be wise and equipped with confidence. “In seeking employment, a graduate must show his/her best as competition is very stiff nowadays,” Bajunaid stressed.

He also asked the new graduates to stay humble because “humility is a mark of a true leader.”

“When you get your job, don’t think of the salary but the learning you may derive from it, as this is the kind thinking that will make one productive,” he added.

Finally, he told them not to be afraid. “Failures are a part of life and when you stumble and fall, try to stand again,” advised the NCMF commissioner representing the Maranao tribe.

Around 2,000 students taking up courses on engineering, accountancy, business administration, library and information science, information technology, agriculture, fisheries, forestry, hotel and restaurant management, tourism, nursing business administration, social work, public administration, community development, education, arts and social science, natural sciences, law, medicine, graduate studies and others have graduated from MSU, Marawi City. Eleven of them finished their respective courses as magna cum laude while 47 as cum laude.

This year is the 47th graduation exercises of MSU Marawi campus with Senator Francis G. Escudero III as commencement speaker.

It can be recalled that the MSU system caters to poor but deserving students from the Mindanao-Sulu-Palawan (MINSUPALA) region and other provinces in the country. (FPG/PIA-Zamboanga del Norte)
