ISABELA CITY, Basilan, Apr 25 (PIA) – Jobs
and Livelihood Fairs will highlight this year’s observance of Labor Day,
officials of the Department of Labor in Region IX said in a press conference in
Zamboanga City.
DOLE RO 9’s Regional Director Sisinio B. Cano presented to some thirty
tri-media partners from the television, radio, print, and e-media the different
activities in store for the 2012 Labor Day Celebration.
He said that Job and Livelihood Fairs will serve as the highlight of
this year’s Month-Long Labor Day Celebration with this year’s theme: “Pagtutulungan, Pagbabago, Disenteng Trabaho.”
DOLE disclosed that there will be simultaneous motorcade on May 1 in the
different provinces and cities in the region. Other activities include the
distribution of Kabuhayan Starter Kits, Nego-Karts and Livelihood Grants, raffle
bonanza for the workers, skills demonstration, Diskwento Fairs with the Department of Trade and Industry, Free
Medical Screening on Bone Density, Hypertension and Diabetes, Run for
Industrial Peace, PRC Mobile Registration/Renewal of Licenses of Professionals,
DOLE SPESfest, Talentado Night, SPES Got the Talent, Workers’ Show Time–Concierto
de Obreros Year 2, Search for the Outstanding Employers/Employees in the
Private Sector, and the DOLE 9 Intermediaries Summit.
“Our action is on inclusive growth—a sustained growth that massively creates jobs, draws the vast
majority into the economic and social mainstream and continuously reduces mass poverty through the attainment
of decent work agenda,” Cano said.
Cano, together with the members of the Regional Coordinating Council and
Regional Tripartite Industrial Peace Council, who served as the primary
discussants of the said conference also presented other significant information
on the implementation of the programs and services particularly the programs
for Overseas Filipino Workers, Livelihood Programs, Labor and Occupational
Safety and Health Standards, Employment Programs thru Job Fair and
online–portal access, and the importance of reasonable wage fixing at the
transportation industry .
RD Cano noted that as far as DOLE is concerned, the department upholds
its mandate and thrust as it is focused on the sectoral plan that supports the
Philippine Development Plan 2011 to 2016 and PDP goal of inclusive growth, the blueprint on labor & employment reforms, policies & programs, and what represents the collective
priorities of various stakeholders.
