ISABELA CITY, Basilan, Apr 25 (PIA) – Jobs and Livelihood Fairs will highlight this year’s observance of Labor Day, officials of the Department of Labor in Region IX said in a press conference in Zamboanga City.

DOLE RO 9’s Regional Director Sisinio B. Cano presented to some thirty tri-media partners from the television, radio, print, and e-media the different activities in store for the 2012 Labor Day Celebration.

He said that Job and Livelihood Fairs will serve as the highlight of this year’s Month-Long Labor Day Celebration with this year’s theme: “Pagtutulungan, Pagbabago, Disenteng Trabaho.”

DOLE disclosed that there will be simultaneous motorcade on May 1 in the different provinces and cities in the region. Other activities include the distribution of Kabuhayan Starter Kits, Nego-Karts and Livelihood Grants, raffle bonanza for the workers, skills demonstration, Diskwento Fairs with the Department of Trade and Industry, Free Medical Screening on Bone Density, Hypertension and Diabetes, Run for Industrial Peace, PRC Mobile Registration/Renewal of Licenses of Professionals, DOLE SPESfest, Talentado Night, SPES Got the Talent, Workers’ Show Time–Concierto de Obreros Year 2, Search for the Outstanding Employers/Employees in the Private Sector, and the DOLE 9 Intermediaries Summit.

“Our action is on inclusive growth—a sustained growth that massively creates jobs, draws the vast majority into the economic and social mainstream and continuously reduces mass poverty through the attainment of decent work agenda,” Cano said.

Cano, together with the members of the Regional Coordinating Council and Regional Tripartite Industrial Peace Council, who served as the primary discussants of the said conference also presented other significant information on the implementation of the programs and services particularly the programs for Overseas Filipino Workers, Livelihood Programs, Labor and Occupational Safety and Health Standards, Employment Programs thru Job Fair and online–portal access, and the importance of reasonable wage fixing at the transportation industry .

RD Cano noted that as far as DOLE is concerned, the department upholds its mandate and thrust as it is focused on the sectoral plan that supports the Philippine Development Plan 2011 to 2016 and PDP goal of inclusive growth, the blueprint on labor & employment reforms, policies & programs, and what represents the collective priorities of various stakeholders.

He further lauded the unflinching support of the tri-media partners in the dissemination of this information to the intended public. “The Philippine Information Agency Regional Office 9, headed by Director Noemi B. Edaga is always supportive in the delivery of DOLE’s Communication Plan,” he added. (JC/RVC/PIA-9 ZBST)
