ZAMBOANGA
CITY,
Apr. 22, (PIA) - - The city government through the City Tourism Division under
the Office of the City Mayor has lined up a series of activities to fittingly
commemorate the 91st birth anniversary of the late Maria Clara
Lobregat, erstwhile congresswoman and mayor of Zamboanga on April 26.
Dubbed as “Dia de Ma’am Caling”, the
celebration forms part of the 2012 Zamboanga Summer Festival which kicked off
April 14 with the 10th Kite Flying competition.
The Dia de Ma’am Caling on April 26 will be
highlighted by the commemorative mass at 4pm at the Holy Trinity Parish in
Pasonanca followed by the program and awarding ceremony of the 2nd
Maria Clara Lobregat Awards of Excellence at 5pm at the Jardin Maria Clara also
in Pasonanca.
The 7th Encuentro de Chabacano
Banda Musical (Battle of the Bands) will be held from 6pm onwards also at the
Jardin Maria Clara after the commemorative program.
Meanwhile, some 200 young boys will benefit
from Operation Tuli or circumcision to
be spearheaded by the City Health Office also on April 26 from 8am to 12noon at
the CHO conference room.
The free circumcision services have been
included in the Dia de Ma’am Caling events for the past few years considering
that the celebration falls during summer period when such rite of passage is
usually conducted. The free circumcision is aimed at helping children in one of
the stages of their life.
Mrs. Lobregat, the only woman mayor of
Zamboanga and mother of incumbent Mayor Celso Lobregat, passed away January 2,
2004.
The observance of Dia de Ma’am Caling is
pursuant to a city ordinance mandating the city government to undertake
activities in commemoration of the late mayor who, in her lifetime,
accomplished a lot for the benefit of the city of Zamboanga. (JPA/SC/CIO/PIA 9-ZBST)
