ZAMBOANGA
CITY,
Apr. 22, (PIA) - - The Police Special Operation Task Group “Crime Buster”
yesterday neutralized a suspected carnapper in line with its stepped up drive
against criminal elements in the city.
A task group member, PO1 Alianafia R.
Mariwa was slightly wounded during the operation at Sampaloc Drive in
Talon-talon shortly before 3 in the afternoon.
The group, led by PInsp. Mohamar R. Mariwa
swooped the area in the course of its operation against lawless elements when
Jay Isnani fired at the young Mariwa. The incident prompted the group to
retaliate and gunned down Isnani, a known carnapper.
As this developed, Mayor Celso Lobregat commended
the wounded Mariwa for his courageous act and encouraged him to continue on
discharging his mandated duties despite the risks for the interest of Zamboanga
City.
The Chief Executive visited the policeman at
the hospital where the latter was rushed for treatment, to personally convey
his commendations. He said the young Mariwa appears to be in high spirit
despite his wounds and that the latter wants to recover swiftly so he can rejoin
his group in running after criminal elements.
Recovered from Isnani’s possession was a 45
caliber pistol which he used to shoot Mariwa.
The young Mariwa is out of danger.
Mayor Lobregat emphasized that the
Talon-talon operation yesterday formed part of the overall effort to solve
crime incidents in the city.
The same operation, he said, proves that
the authorities with the support of the local government are not resting and
are doing all they can to address the security challenges besetting the city.
Last April 18 (Wednesday) joint elements
from the Zamboanga City Public Safety Company, Zamboanga City Police
Office-Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team and Regional Intelligence
Division-9 arrested two suspected drug pushers in Purok 3A, barangay Recodo in a buy bust operation.
Arrested were Hamad Asilin y Mahales aka
“Obeng”, 48 years old and Abdurahmin Cana y Amina aka “Toto”, 22 years old,
both residents of Recodo. Their arrest came after they conspired with each
other in selling to a poseur buyer 2 small plastic sachet containing suspected
shabu in the amount of P300. A total of 11 other small plastic sachets and 18
medium-sized plastic sachets containing suspected shabu were confiscated from
their possession when frisked.
The police are also closely coordinating
with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) regional office under
Director Adzhar Albani in the conduct of anti-illegal drugs operations. Known
suspected drug pushers, gun for hire group members and other law offenders were
apprehended during recent operations. (JPA/SC/CIO/PIA 9-ZBST)
