By Vic Larato

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Apr. 22, (PIA) - - Mayor Celso Lobregat recently released the city government’s assistance totaling P148,000 to 36 families whose houses and other belongings went up in smoke during fire incidents last month in different barangays, this city.

Families, whose houses were totally damaged by fire, received P5,000 each while those, whose houses were partially destroyed, including house renters and sharers received P3,000 each.

Records from the City Social Welfare and Development Office showed on March 1 a fire broke out at Solis Drive, Saavedra Extension in Sta. Maria. One house was totally damaged, while two others were partially destroyed.

On March 13, another fire incident occurred, this time at Sun Street in Tumaga, razing a house to the ground and partially destroying another.

Two more houses, one totally destroyed and the other partially damaged, were hit by fire in Pasonanca on March 21.

Two days later, on March 23, a fire reduced 17 houses to ashes and partially damaged 12 other houses in the coastal barangay of Rio Hondo.

No one was reported injured during the fire incidents. Ironically, however, March is declared a Fire Prevention Month in the country.
