ZAMBOANGA CITY, Apr. 22, (PIA) - - Mayor Celso Lobregat recently released the city government’s assistance totaling P148,000 to 36
families whose houses and other belongings went up in smoke during fire
incidents last month in different barangays, this city.
Families, whose houses were totally damaged by fire,
received P5,000 each while those, whose houses were partially destroyed,
including house renters and sharers received P3,000 each.
Records from the City Social Welfare and Development
Office showed on March 1 a fire broke out at Solis Drive, Saavedra Extension in
Sta. Maria. One house was totally damaged, while two others were partially
destroyed.
On March 13, another fire incident occurred, this
time at Sun Street in Tumaga, razing a house to the ground and partially
destroying another.
Two more houses, one totally destroyed and the other
partially damaged, were hit by fire in Pasonanca on March 21.
Two days later, on March 23, a fire reduced 17
houses to ashes and partially damaged 12 other houses in the coastal barangay
of Rio Hondo.
No one was reported injured during the fire
incidents. Ironically, however, March is declared a Fire Prevention Month in
the country.
Assisting the mayor in the cash distribution to fire
victims at City Hall conference room were City Social Welfare and Development
