Anti-crime efforts attain breakthroughs

By Sheila Covarrubias

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Apr. 22, (PIA) - - Combined elements from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-9) and Zamboanga City Police Office have apprehended several wanted persons involved in illegal drugs, possession of illegal firearms and other crimes during series of raids and operations in the city recently.

Formal charges have been filed against the suspects.

As this developed, Mayor Celso Lobregat said the series of arrests effected on law offenders forms part of the overall effort to solve crime incidents in the city.

The same proves that the authorities with the support of the local government are not resting and are doing all they can to address the security challenges besetting the city, he stressed.

Recently (Apr. 18), joint elements from the Zamboanga City Public Safety Company, Zamboanga City Police Office-Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team and RID-9 arrested two suspected drug pushers in  Purok 3A, barangay Recodo in an anti-illegal drugs operation.

Arrested were Hamad Asilin y Mahales aka “Obeng”, 48 years old and Abdurahmin Cana y Amina aka “Toto”, 22 years old, both residents of Recodo. Their arrest came after they conspired with each other in selling to a poseur buyer 2 small plastic sachet containing suspected shabu in the amount of P300. A total of 11 other small plastic sachets and 18 medium-sized plastic sachets containing suspected shabu were confiscated from their possession and direct control when frisked.

Last April 16, PDEA-9 elements headed by Director Adzhar Albani nabbed Wally Alama y Yacub alias “Waliul/ Wali Ubz”, 42 of Recodo; Lali Alama y Asula alias “Lali” of Recodo; Mahamud Mahadali y Malicsi alias “Mahamud”, 32 of Jolo, Sulu; Salam Usni y Abubakar alias “Salam”, 34 of Kumalang, Basilan; Alan Sanong y Endeng alias “Sanong”, 44 of Tungawan, Sibugay; and Abraham Mohammad y Garcia alias “Cheng”, 35 of Talisayan at the vicinity of the Hall of Justice in Sta. Barbara said to be members of the Alih Drug Group and believed to be members of a gun for hire group. The arrest was a “counter-action” on the suspects’ foiled attempt to rescue or aid the escape of Nadzul Alih while being brought to the Hall of Justice for arraignment.

Alih aka “Katindig”, who is wanted by law for various crimes that include murder and illegal drugs, was arrested by  personnel from PDEA-9 headed by Albani and forces from the SWAT team of the City Police Office April 12 in Canelar.

Confiscated from the suspects apprehended during the foiled rescue attempt at the hall of Justice April 16 were various long and short firearms and other explosives.
On the other hand, Alih, when arrested, presented a military ID card identifying him as Cpl. Ismael S. Asmadi, confidential agent of ARMMMUC.  Seized in his possession were .9mm pistol and live ammunitions.

Records show that Alih faces a criminal case with no bail required and another criminal case with a bail bond of P200,000. (JPA/SC/CIO/PIA 9-ZBST)
