DIPOLOG CITY, March 30 (PIA) – All local government units (LGUs) throughout the country have been urged to join hundreds of millions of people, businesses and governments around the globe in observing the “Earth Hour” tomorrow.
In its memorandum issued recently to the LGUs, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has called on the local chief executives (LCEs) particularly the governors, mayors and barangay officials to participate in the observance of the Earth Hour.
Earth Hour, which is an international campaign for planet Earth against global warming, is going to be observed worldwide by switching off lights for an hour starting at 8:30 p.m. tomorrow.
To drum up public support to the said activity, the DILG also urged the LGUs to hang streamers and tarpaulins in strategic and conspicuous places, make some announcements during flag raising ceremonies or issue press releases about the event.
It was learned that more than 5,200 cities and town in 135 countries worldwide joined the observance of earth hour last year. (FPG/PIA-Zamboanga del Norte)
