DIPOLOG CITY - As the government is pushing for a
lasting solution to the peace problem in Mindanao, the officers and members of
the Zamboanga del Norte Press Club (ZNPC) are also one in promoting the culture
of peace through responsible journalism.
Getting fed up with the skirmishes happening in some parts of Mindanao,
the ZNPC sees it wise and imperative to start promoting peace these days
through print and broadcast media.
“Let us help promote peace,” suggested Ms. Rosalita D. Elia, ZNPC’s
past president.
The call to promote peace by ZNPC officers and members came in time
that the government is seeking to forge a peace agreement with the Moro Islamic
Liberation Front (MILF).
It could be recalled that the “Framework Agreement on the Bangsamoro”
was signed in October last year between the government and the MILF.
In a related development, ZNPC has recently elected its new set of
officers for 2013 and they will be inducted into office on March 16. These
officers are Rosemarie Miranda-President, Engr. Eduardo de la Cerna-Vice
President, Vicente H. Carreon- Secretary, Crispin Garcia-Treasurer, Robert
Pinsoy-Auditor and Samuel Amatong, James Cyril Ruiz, Franklin P. Gumapon, Peter
Co, Rhey Davie Magdayao, Maynard Baes, Czarito B. Zamora, Edwin Bation, Elmer
Razo and Ruben Enoy as directors.
This year’s induction program has for its theme, “Promoting the culture
of peace through responsible journalism.”
ZNPC, which was founded in 1965, has been providing free journalistic
writing seminars in partnership with the Department of Education (DepED) to
high school students in Zamboanga del Norte and the twin cities of Dipolog and
Dapitan starting July to September of each school year. (PIA9)
