DIPOLOG CITY, Oct. 18 (PIA) - - Selected personnel from public and
university libraries from all over Mindanao have recently completed the first
American shelves training-workshop conducted by the Thomas Jefferson
Information Center (TJIC) at the Ateneo de Davao University in Davao City.
Editha Pagente-Tomong, a staff from the Zamboanga del Norte Provincial
Library and Information Center (ZNPLIC) and one of the participants, said the
training was aimed to promote stronger relations between the US and the
Philippines by setting up an American shelf in public and university libraries
with Amazon kindle books, maps and other reading materials to be supplied by
the US embassy in Manila.
Tomong also disclosed that the participants were taught how to use the
social media such as web chat, email and others.
TJIC deputy director Pong Aureaus, Tomong said, talked on planning
programs, reporting and evaluation while Eileen Valdecanas, educational
advising coordinator, discussed the topic titled Webchat: Education USA.
Being identified as TJIC kiosk in region 9, the ZNPLIC is expected to
receive new electronic gadgets from the US embassy.
Aside from TJIC Director Reysa C. Alenzuela, other attendees were
Yasin Mohammad, chief librarian of ARMM Regional Library in Cotabato City, Dr.
Briccio Merced, university librarian of UP Mindanao in Davao City, Salome Enoc
of Davao City Public Library, Rosita Ling, chief librarian of Basilan
Provincial Library, Rudylin Rosales, college librarian of JH Cerilles State
College in Pagadian City, Beatriz Banal of Bukidnon State University and Editha
