BAYOG,
Zamboanga Del Sur, Oct 18 (PIA) – the Department of Agriculture turned-over 6M worth of projects to
the municipality of Bayog in a simple ceremony held recently at the Glupa
Gulian Agro Tourism Park, Kahayagan, Bayog.
Said
project which is under the Mindanao Rural Development Program-Community Fund
for Agricultural Development (MRDP-CFAD) of DA will have a 1M counter part
funds from the local government unit of Bayog..
These
projects will be undertaken by the People’s Organization of the 20 recipient
barangays who will engage on rubber and corn production except for one who
choose to embark on rice and corn milling.
Mayor
Leonardo Babasa, Jr. in his message expressed his thanks and gratitude to the
national government for including his municipality as one of the recipients of
the MRDP-CFAD projects.
“Aside
from the mining industry that is readily available for the people, these
projects will open more livelihood opportunities to the municipality,” Babasa
was quoted as saying.
It
can be recalled, MRDP was developed in 1999 as a target poverty reduction
program of the government for the rural poor, women and indigenous communities
in Mindanao.
It
specifically aimed at increasing agricultural production and efficiency; and
improving rural incomes in a sustainable manner, improving food security among
the poor, and providing sustainable mechanisms for rural development through
improved institutional service delivery by the LGUs and the agencies concerned.
The
ceremony was attended by Dr. Denis Palabrica, Deputy Regional
Coordinator-MRDP-CFAD, local officials headed by Mayor Babasa together with
some 200 members of the people’s organization who are recipients of these
