DIPOLOG CITY,July 3(PIA)---In compliance with the directive from
the Department of Education, Central Office, Sta. Felomina Elementary Schools
of barangay Sta. Felomina, Dipolog City immediately conducted fire and earthquake
drills among its pupils last Friday, June 29, 2012.
The
drill was implemented in cooperation with Department of National Defense (DND),
and National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
Education
Secretary Armin Luistro recently issued DepEd Order No. 48, series of 2012 directing
all private and public schools throughout the country, including its attached
agencies to conduct fire and earthquake drills.
According
to Luistro, through the regular conduct of fire and earthquake drill, the
Department will be able to assess the capability level and responses of the
schools and the community in time of disaster and emergency situations.

Felomina Barangay Chairman Nelson Saldon, who heads the Barangay Risk Reduction
and Management Council in his barangay lauded the initiative of DepEd as it
helps his constituents, specially the children to prepare themselves for any
disaster that may happen.

Felomina Barangay Kagawad Crispin Garcia, who is also the News Editor of a local
tabloid (Mindanao Observer) circulating in the city urged the children to always
remember what has been taught to them during the drill and not to panic during
