PAGADIAN CITY, June 21 -
- The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) is conducting a 3-day Entrepreneurship
Development Training (EDT) on the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) Reintegration
Program held at the UCCP Western Mindanao Great Commission Conference Hall,
this city on June 20-22, 2012.
Implemented by the National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO),
an attached agency under the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)
established on March 12, 2007, the NRCO aims to effectively implement programs and services
that will enable OFWs and their families to productively rejoin mainstream
society through education, capability enhancement as well as linkaging and
networking with stakeholders and service providers.
Mr. Leonilo Y. Daymiel, OIC of the Program Services Division of
OWWA9 said the training is intended for OFWs and their beneficiaries who want to avail of the programs and services
under the National Reintegration Center for OFWs.
“Filipinos are said to be all over the globe, in 196 countries
and OFWs have become the pillars of our economy,” DOLE Assistant Regional
Director Virginia L. Bonbon said in her inspirational message. “Everyday, 3,000
Filipinos leave the country and we have registered
$10.7 billion in remittances last year which is equal to 12% of our gross
domestic product (GDP).”
Anna Cristy Amorganda of OWWA Pagadian said speakers from the
Department of Trade and Industry, Land Bank of the Philippines and NRCO will discuss
the following topics: How to start a small business; Personal Entrepreneurial
Competencies; Preparation of the Business Plan/Project Proposal Workshop; OWWA
Programs and Services; Overview of the P2 Billion Reintegration program and
other NRCO programs.
Ms. Elsa Cristoria, 43 years old OFW from Dumalinao and one of
the participants to the training said she is so grateful for this opportunity because
while she manages her own spare parts business, she can also take care of her three
growing children who need the loving care and guidance of a mother. She was an
OFW in Hongkong for two years and now she is back and staying for good, thanks
to the OFW Reintegration program.
The training was attended by some 30 participants. (ALT-PIA9/Zambo Sur)
