DIPOLOG CITY, May
15 (PIA) - - In keeping with the National Greening Program (NGP) pursued by
President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III, the city government here has now
embarked on massive tree planting activities to help mitigate climate change.
Mayor Evelyn T. Uy
has directed all her department heads to lead tree planting activities in
support of the program.
She also ordered
that nurseries be established to supply the seedlings during tree planting
activities.
It can be recalled
that President Aquino had issued Executive Order No. 26 urging all government
agencies from national agencies down to the local government units as well as
private organizations to actively participate in the national greening program
which aims to plant 1.5 billion trees in 1.5 million hectares nationwide with
the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) as the lead agency.
