IPIL, Zamboanga Sibugay. April 26 - - - Twenty three (23) members of the Ipil
OFW Association were trained on meat processing spearheaded by the Regional
Welfare Office 9 of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) in
collaboration with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority
(TESDA) and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).
The conduct of the training was in view of
the strategic response to reduce the socio-economic vulnerability by expanding
the employment opportunity of the members of OFW Organizations.
Skills training involved techniques on
production of tocino, longganisa, beef tapa and pork ham.
Leonilo Daymiel, head of the Programs and
Services Division revealed that one of the objectives envisioned by the
Association is to uplift the living conditions of its members through
attendance in livelihood trainings and engaging in a
gainful activity.
On the other hand, the training also
incorporates counseling on saving and financial management to help the
participants manage and sustain their finances.
Daymiel during the culminating activity
urged the OFWs who took part of the training to make this a livelihood
opportunity. He believes that at the end of the training, the participants
would be fully equipped on the basics of meat production and in time would put
up their own small businesses and gainfully generate their own sources of
income.
Meanwhile, the president of the association
was grateful that the agency initiated the livelihood training which they
consider an avenue for employability and competitiveness.
The training was held on 17 to 19 April
2012 at the Talisay Heights Grill, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay Povince. (MJRA/OWWA9/PIA9/ALT)
