DIPOLOG CITY, March 20 (PIA) – The Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM) of the Department of Agriculture (DA)-IX has launched here yesterday the modified rapid composting technology.
Dubbed “Expanded Modified Rapid Composting” (EMRC), is one of the programs pursued by BSWM to promote the use of organic fertilizer in farming.
BSWM staff Florence Agustin conducted a technical briefing about the project at the City Agriculture Demo Farm at Barangay Olingan with City Agriculturist Dionesio Mandawe, Barangay Captain Juanito Cabale, Mayor Evelyn T. Uy represented by Rosemarie P. Miranda, Dipolog-Polanco Irrigators Association President Gomercindo Dimasuhid, City Agriculture and Fishery Council (CAFC) President Clemente Guio and farmers from barangays Punta and Olingan in attendance.
DA-IX also gave the farmers trichoderma sachet which would help hasten decomposition of rice straws into organic fertilizer.
DA has also introduced EMRC to the farmers to enable them to produce their own organic fertilizers for their respective farms. (FPG/PIA-Zamboanga del Norte)
