PAGADIAN CITY, March 27 (PIA) – Summer heat is on so is the youth’s passion to learn health and sanitation, solid waste management and first aid through a seminar.
Over 400 young community leaders gathered in batches at the Farmer’s Haven in Dao, Pagadian City to be proactive in learning the basics of youth participation in environmental protection and health promotion.
Donald Rey C. Ibona, Zamboanga del Sur, Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federated President said the training is held to make the services of the youth sector in every community readily available to respond to disaster risk reduction management when calamity and bad weather condition strike to possibly damage lives and properties.
The 3-day seminar was pushed by Zamboanga del Sur Gov. Antonio H. Cerilles to ensure that SK leaders here could be refreshed on their role as well as to equip them with knowledge on topics like environmental protection and sanitation; environment and health impacts specifically on water and dengue prevention and first aid; facts and figures on garbage; Ecological Waste Management Act, and on the ill effects of drug addiction.
National Youth Commission Cluster Head for Southwestern Mindanao Director Raymond Domingo, also graced the seminar with his admonition to SKs. He told them to be ever conscious to dispense their responsibility honorably and to balance their privilege with accountability.
The SK leaders are expected to download their learnings attained from the seminar to fellow youths in their localities to generate multipliers. (NBE/PIA9)
