DIPOLOG CITY, Jan. 5 (PIA) - - Three pupils from this city have successfully passed the national competitive examinations administered nationwide by the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) for incoming freshmen.
The provincial office of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) identified the three passers as Pierre Angeli Pacatang Barbaso and Ma. Faith Anne Jatico Gayapa of the Dipolog City SPED Center, and Vril Jappuch Penales Romero of Dipolog Pilot Demonstration School (DPDS).
Ms. Marilyn Miranda-Cadag, a staff of the DOST provincial office also disclosed that 198 grade six pupils from the different elementary schools in Zamboanga del Norte and the cities of Dipolog and Dapitan took the qualifying test, which was simultaneously conducted in designated test centers all over the country on Sept. 10, 2011.
In region IX, 24 grade six pupils have passed the test with six coming from Pagadian Pilot Central Elementary School in Pagadian City, five from Ateneo de Zamboanga University in Zamboanga City, three from Dipolog City, three from Ferndale International School in Zamboanga City, two from Pilar College in Zamboanga City, and one each from Aurora Regional Pilot SPED Center in Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur, Pagadian Montessori in Pagadian City, Claret School of Zamboanga in Zamboanga City, Claret College of Isabela in Isabela City, Basilan, and Isabela Pilot Central Elementary School, also in Isabela City, Basilan.
It was also learned that around 19,925 grade six pupils took the test nationwide and only 1,096 made it.
These passers will become PSHS scholars and they are going to enjoy free tuition fee, free loan of textbooks, monthly living allowance and clothing allowance. As scholars, they expected to meet the highest standard of scholastic achievement and behavior. (FPG/PIA-Zamboanga del Norte)
