Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur, Jan 12 (PIA) – As the new year starts and to give emphasis on its peace and order situation, Municipal Peace and Order Council (MPOC) of Bayog, this province convened on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Glupa Gulian Agro-Tourism Park, Sitio Quibranza, Barangay Kahayagan, this municipality.
Mayor Leonardo Babasa, Jr. gave his welcome message to some 73 participants composed of the council’s regular members, local government employees and some invited local residents. Also present are Col. Gerardo Barrientos, Brigade Commander, 53rd IB, Philippine Army and Lt.Col. Nasser Pendatun, Battalion Commander 53rd IB,PA and men.
Lt.Col Pendatun, using a power point presented the Armed Forces of the Philippines Internal Peace and Security Plan code name “Bayanihan.” After his presentation, he urged the participants to work hand in hand to attain real peace in the locality and in our country as well.
During the meeting, the most significant concern brought out to the council members is the reported citings of New People’s Army (NPA) in some barangays of the municipality. The barangay chairmen concern expressed fears of infiltration by these elements in their respective areas.
The army official assured the barangay chairmen that they will check and verify their complaint and act on it as soon as possible, infact after the meeting army personnel immediately visited the affected areas. (BAG/CAL/PIA9)
