PSA gears up for 2015 Census on Population

By Jocelyn P. Alvarez

ZAMBOANGA CITY -  The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) is now preparing for the 2015 Census of Population (POPCEN) set in August this year.

With this development, PSA convened on May 5, 2015 the Regional Census Coordinating Board (RCCB- ZamPen Region) to discuss and address issues concerning the upcoming conduct of the POPCEN.

Dr. Mewchun WS. Pamaran of the PSA and Executive Officer of the RCCB said POPCEN would be conducted nationwide in 86 provinces, 1,634 cities and municipalities, 42,029 barangays- thus a total of 82,858 manpower will b needed to carry out the census.

“For  Zamboanga City alone, we need 527 manpower. We are actually in the process of hiring people that will serve as team supervisors; census area supervisors; assistant area coordinators and district clerks,” Pamaran said.

Pamaran said that PSA has been prepping up since April for the conduct of the POPCEN . “We have started gearing up by networking with LGU, and we are happy that Mayor Beng Climaco convened the Zamboanga City Census Coordinating Board (ZCCCB) for a meeting on April 16 .”

“We have also negotiated with local papers to provide us with a statistics corner starting this month,” Pamaran said of the ground works they have been doing.

Member-agencies of the RCCB are also to provide assistance to PSA in the preparation for this activity.

Pamaran appeal to the public not to be afraid to give data when PSA accredited enumerators will come knocking at their doors in August to conduct census.

“Everyone counts. Count everyone. So Please give truthful - factual data so that we will also get accurate data entries for enumeration,” she said.

POPCEN is a complete enumeration of households in the country and is designed to take inventory of the entire population in the Philippines.
