ZAMBOANGA CITY – In response to the
atrocities in the city, the Department of Health – Center for Health and
Development (DOH-CHD) Zamboanga Peninsula has established a makeshift hospital
inside the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports complex.
DOH-CHD 9 officer in-charge Dr. Nimfa B. Torrizo said
medical services, water and sanitation, nutrition as well as psycho-social
debriefing are the immediate and available services being offered for the
displaced families right at their doorsteps.
Five emergency operating theaters were also established
inside the satellite hospital at the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU)
gymnasium to serve traumatic patients in the aftermath of the armed conflict.
“As of today other regions’ support and assistance are
coming particularly those from regions 10, 11, 12, 13 and CARAGA to augment
human resources, logistics, medicines and other medical supplies for the evacuees,”
Dr. Torrizo said.
“Earlier, medical and Red Cross teams from other cities
and provinces in the region are presently in the city to assist us,” Torrizo
disclosed.
“We are working together for the period in order to
provide quality services to the victims amid this hurting event,” she added.
Meanwhile, Health Secretary Enrique T. Ona arrived
yesterday afternoon to personally assess the situation particularly the medical
services being given to the victims and to see to it that medical facilities,
logistics and medicines among others are made available to the victims.
