By Mary Jane R. Amarado

Zamboanga City, December 4 - - As part of its continuing thrust to promote the welfare of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Regional Welfare Office No. IX organized a Training of Trainers for the Federation of OFW Family Circles in Region IX held on  November 28-29 at the Astoria Regency Hotel here.

A total of Forty (40) OFW Leaders  throughout Region IX participated during the 2-day training as an offshoot of the Capability-Building & Conflict Resolution Seminar-Workshop held on  November 8-9, 2012.

Regional Director Hassan Gabra T. Jumdain said that the activity aims to train the OFW Leaders as OWWA’s community-working arms for effective delivery of the agency’s programs and services to its clients even at far-flung municipalities.

During the opening program, Department of Labor & Employment (DOLE) Regional Director Sisinio B. Cano lauded OWWA for being a nurturing steward & for its commitment in upholding the welfare of OFWS and their families.

Ms. Emilenn Kate D.S. Sacdalan & Ms. Cherryl M. Si, trainers from the Social Enterprise Development Partnerships, Inc. (SEDPI), a private microfinance capacity building institution which runs the microfinance program of the Ateneo de Manila University trained the participants on adult learning techniques with focus on leadership, values re-orientation, and capacity building.

“This training supports knowledge and skills transfer for our OFW Leaders. I want them to be able to practice their communication and practical skills to be able to speak effectively to groups in their respective communities. As leaders of the OFW sector here in Region IX, I want them to be able to conduct trainings on their own and help them craft their own training programs or revise existing training programs for local adaptation.” Director Jumdain added.

The participants underwent series of group works by facilitating discussions, responding to questions, as well as giving and receiving feedbacks.

OFW Leader-participant & Program and Training Director of Dipolog City, Mr. Ramon G. Lubaton expressed, “Our sincere thanks goes to Director Jumdain and to all RWO-9 staff for their continuing support and hardwork because without their assistance, this training may not have taken place. And we would also like to thank the two trainers for being willing to share their experiences, knowledge and skills with us.” (MRA, LCO/OWWA/PIA9/alt)
