By Mary Jane R. Amarado

ZAMBOANGA CITY, June 5 - - The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) is gearing up for the celebration of the Migrant Workers’ Day on Thursday, June 7, 2012,  from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm at the Western Mindanao State University (WMSU) Gymnasium.

With the theme “Serbisyo at Oportunidad Para sa OFW at Pamilya,” the celebration will highlight the respective roles of OWWA’s partners in the government and private sector on the promotion of the well-being and protection of the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs).

A One-Stop-Shop & Job Fair is set up to bring an array of membership and employment facilitation and other services.

“On June 7, we will be bringing closer to the people the various services catering to the needs of OWWA clientele,” OWWA Regional Director Hassan Jumdain said.

The One-Stop-Shop will be composed of officers and representatives of the Department of Foreign Affairs (for passport application); National Statistics Office (for birth & marriage certificates); Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (for National Certificate application); Social Security System (for social security membership); Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (for medical security membership); Home Development Mutual Fund/PAG-IBIG (for shelter security membership).

Aside from the services clinics of these agencies, banking institutions like Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), Banco De Oro (BDO) and Land Bank of the Philippines (LBP) shall provide easier access to loans, insurance and investment opportunities thus encouraging OFWs and their families to manage their finances through savings and investment.

“The event will also serve as a venue where our agency as well as institutional and social partners can express gratitude to all OFWs and their families,” Jumdain added.

On the other hand, Globe Telecom will provide a “Libreng Tawag” to families of OFWs who want to communicate with their loved-ones abroad.

The Job fair will be participated in by Licensed Recruitment Agencies accredited by the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) which will offer employment opportunities to all jobseekers. (MJRA/OWWA9/PIA9/alt)
