DIPOLOG CITY, May 1
(PIA) - - The relationship between the employees and employers here is strong and healthy, according to the provincial
office of the Department of Labor and Employment-Zamboanga del Norte (DOLE-ZN).
DOLE-ZN provincial
head Henry Tianero said in today’s press conference that no major labor
disputes have ever happened in the city and in the whole of Zamboanga del Norte
last year and early this year.
With this, Tianero
expressed his gratitude to the officers and members of the Tripartite
Industrial Peace Council (TIPC) chaired by Dipolog Mayor Evelyn T. Uy for
creating and maintaining a healthy employee-employer relationship in the area.
TIPC is instituted
to help ensure industrial peace and improve productivity among workers.
The TIPC chair also
disclosed that the informal sectors such as the sidewalk vendors were also
given livelihoods to augment their family incomes.
She said 15
negokarts (negosyo sa kariton) were distributed last year to qualified sidewalk
vendors, complete with a tricycle, a cooking stove and a little capital to buy
fish balls, tempura and others. Another 13 negokarts are slated to be
distributed within the year.
On the other hand,
DOLE-ZN revealed that the province has an unemployment rate of 9 percent, which
means that for every 100 employable individuals, nine of them are jobless. (FPG/PIA-Zamboanga
