DAPITAN CITY, May 9
(PIA) - - The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-IX and the
Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-Dapitan City Post have agreed to jointly protect
and preserve the marine environment in the area.
A Memorandum of
Agreement (MOA) between DENR-IX represented by Regional Executive Director
Arleigh J. Adorable and PCG-Dapitan City represented by Commander Romeo W. Tero
was formally signed this morning at the Barangay Hall in San Vicente this city.
The MOA signing was
also witnessed by Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Carlito
Tuballa, Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer Alhambra Gumandol,
and the barangay captains of San Vicente, San Pedro and Polo.
Tero said
protecting the marine environment is one of the functions of the PCG under
Republic Act 9993, otherwise known as the Philippine Coast Guard Law of 2009.
He also pledged that the PCG would always be available to help protect the
marine environment and resources against pollution and other illegal
activities.
For his part,
Director Adorable told the audience that the DENR and PCG could not fully
protect the coastal environment without the help and involvement of the people.
“Caring for the environment can only be done when everybody gets involved,” he
said, adding that environmental protection is everyone’s concern.
