DIPOLOG CITY, May 4
(PIA) - - To give the public a healthy and smoke-free environment, the city
government here has tapped the Philippine National Police (PNP) to help in the
enforcement of anti-smoking laws.
Forty six policemen
have just completed an orientation seminar conducted by the City Health Office
(CHO) on the pertinent provisions of Republic Act (RA) 9211 and City Ordinance
196, also known as Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003 and Anti-Smoking Ordinance,
respectively.
Sanitation Officer
Edgardito R. Baes and Administrative Officer Larry Padilla of the CHO served as
lecturers in the said seminar.
These 46 policemen
would be issued deputation orders authorizing them to apprehend any violator of
anti-smoking laws in the city.
The city leadership
also hopes to make the city a smoke-free zone by strictly enforcing the
anti-smoking regulations.
It can be recalled
that Dipolog City had received last year the pink orchid award from the
Department of Health (DOH) in recognition of its efforts toward curbing smoking
to bring about a clean and healthy environment. (FPG/PIA-Zamboanga del Norte)
