DIPOLOG CITY, April 20 (PIA) - - Thirty three poor students are now assured of a free postsecondary education, courtesy of the provincial government of Zamboanga del Norte.
Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Governor Rolando E. Yebes recently reported that the provincial government had already selected 33 youths as its scholars for degree and/or non-degree programs offered by the Jose Rizal Memorial State University (JRMSU) and Dipolog School of Fisheries (DSF) starting June this year.
The scholars are to enroll in any of these courses: Associate in Computer Technology, Diploma in Agricultural Technology, Associate in Hotel and Restaurant Management and Bachelor of Science in Agriculture.
It has been observed that the demand for agriculture graduates these days is high but only a few are pursuing agriculture courses in college.
The provincial leadership believes that agriculture graduates play a very important role in increasing agricultural production to attain food sufficiency.
In a related development, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) is urging college students to take up courses that are in demand nowadays so that they can easily find employment right after graduation.
According to DOLE, jobs abound everywhere but only a few are qualified as most college graduates failed to enroll in courses that match the job market. (FPG/PIA-Zamboanga del Norte)
