by Sheila Covarrubias

ZAMBOANGA CITY, 23 March. (PIA 9) After the soft opening Tuesday, the magnificent Paseo del Mar musically gyrating dancing fountain will roar to life tonight, as it formally opens to the public with National Museum Board of Trustees Chairman Ramon del Rosario, Jr. as guest of honor.

Highly anticipated by many, the musically gyrating dancing fountain has undergone a series of tests and adjustments have been made in its massive pumping systems paving the way for its grand opening tonight.

Mayor Celso Lobregat said the grand opening of the Paseo fountain at 6:15 tonight will also be graced by National Museum Director IV Jeremy Robert Barns and del Rosario’s wife Marivic.

During the test run following the soft opening Tuesday, people were overwhelmed by the sight of the water with lights dancing with the music.

Thousands of people—from all walks of life—are expected to converge at the scenic Paseo del Mar to view the spectacular show that consists of 6 carefully selected and diverse songs with different beats that synchronize with the rhythmic dancing of the water with lights, sound and special effects. Each show lasts for a maximum of 26 minutes.

The soft opening Tuesday coincided with Mayor Lobregat’s 64th birthday celebration and was graced by members of the City Council headed by Vice Mayor Cesar Iturralde, department heads, representatives from national and local agencies including the mayor’s children and grandchild and other relatives and close friends and supporters.

The soft opening kicked off with the blessing rite with Archbishop Romulo Valles officiating the rite. William Scharre and Robert Scharre, president and vice president, respectively of Industrion Inc., the fountain contractor and 3VC Construction proprietor Ladislao Darunday, who is undertaking the civil works were also present during the event.

The contractor said the Paseo musically gyrating fountain has unique features, thus, is one of its kind in the Philippines.
The Paseo del Mar musically gyrating dancing fountain is expected to attract a large number of residents and visitors—domestic and foreign as well.

The city government also recently unveiled two other fountains—the laminar shooting jets fountain at the Jardin Maria Clara and the multi-pattered and multi-colored fountain at the newly-refurbished Plaza Pershing. These projects—intended for tourism promotion, form part of the massive infrastructure program undertaken by the Lobregat administration.

Mayor Lobregat said the Paseo del Mar musically gyrating fountain is one of the “best” infrastructure projects that his administration hopes to implement during his term.  (JPA/ SC/CIO/PIA- ZBST)
