ISABELA CITY, Basilan, Mar 26 (PIA) – With more than three and a half decades of dedication, commitment and service to the province, the uniformed men, women and civilian employees of the Western Command (WESCOM) marked its 36th Founding Anniversary on 15 March 2012 in an occasion and a program worth inspiring.
The celebration marks a proud moment for the men and women of WESCOM for showing exemplary service in sustaining the Command’s accomplishments.
“The past years had been characterized by challenges and achievements that we can be proud of, a manifestation of the command’s commitment, dedication and firm resolve and relentless service to the people of Palawan”. BGen Elmer R. Amon AFP pointed out during his opening remarks.
WESCOM Commander LtGen. Juancho M. Sabban AFP expressed in his speech that the Command’s strategic importance today has not only been raised to the national consciousness, but has also earned the interest of the global community. He added the command ought to have Armed Forces that is credible, empowered and capably equipped to carry out the core missions. “The command’s ability to surmount the challenges and address the handicaps will affect not only the future of Palawan but of the whole country”.
“We cannot be completely successful if we are alone in this journey. It requires the full integration of all instruments of national power and the extensive participation, assistance and support of all stakeholders,” Sabban added.
“Let us continue to strive, to grow, to explore, to learn and to march in unison toward WESCOM’s glory. We inherited a rich history and heritage. We are obligated to carry that forward. Undoubtedly, the future promises bigger triumphs and more mighty gains for the many anniversaries to come,” the WESCOM commander concluded.
This year’s month-long anniversary celebration was highlighted by a variety of activities such as: medical mission with the following activities: blood donations through blood-letting with the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC), healthy lifestyle advocacy with the Department of Health (DOH), dental services with distribution of toothbrushes and toothpastes, Inter-unit Sports Fest that aimed to foster camaraderie among different services of the Unified Command together with the Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), launching of livelihood projects for the enlisted personnel such as cassava planting, goat and duck raising, Bike for Health and blessing of the chapel, speed boats and EP barracks.
Gracing the momentous occasion, Hon. Victorino Dennis M. Socrates, Representative 2nd District of Palawan, gave his support to the Command as the guest of honor and speaker.
Plaques of recognition and appreciation were also given to the government offices and private establishments, groups and individuals who provided invaluable assistance to WESCOM in the accomplishment of its mission. (6CRGAFP/RVC-PIA-9 ZBST)
