ISABELA CITY, Basilan, Mar 20 (PIA) – The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) celebrated the 33rd AFP National Reservist Week (NRW) through NRW Regional Convention- Palawan and commenced its celebration proper Friday (Mar 16). The AFP Reserve Command (AFPRESCOM) in Palawan is spearheading the preparations in coordination with the Western Command (WESCOM).
NRW brings together representatives from all AFP reserve units and the three Major Service branches; the Army, Navy and Air force throughout the province, to discuss current issues about the reserve movement, and to encourage feedback on the relationship between the regular AFP, the national government, and the so-called "citizen-soldiers" of the country.
The reservists are citizen-soldiers of our country whose solemn commitment is to nobly assist in Peace and Development.
Furthermore, in line with the post-celebration of the 36th founding anniversary of WESCOM, one of the activities is to have a homecoming of all retired and alumni AFP personnel presently residing in Palawan and held simultaneously during the NRW Regional Convention-Palawan last Saturday (Mar 17).
The objective of this Homecoming is to recognize the invaluable services rendered by these AFP personnel during their stint in the military service.
Moreover, the 33rd AFP NRW opening ceremony of the advocacy is presided by BGen Elmer R. Amon AFP, Deputy Commander of WESCOM as the guest of honor and speaker. On the 17th of March was the opening ceremony of the convention proper with Palawan Governor Abraham Khalil B Mitra as the guest of honor and speaker and LtGen. Juancho M. Sabban AFP, Commander of WESCOM as the speaker during the closing ceremony.
Furthermore, MGen. Joel C. Marayag AFP, Deputy Chief of Staff for Reservist and Retirees (RRA), J9 graced the activity on 17 March. One of the invited guests on the said occasion will be Hon Edward S Hagedorn, Mayor of Puerto Princesa City. (6CRGAFP/RVC-PIA-9 ZBST)
