By Gideon C. Corgue

PAGADIAN CITY, July 12 (PIA) – 123 bags or an equivalent to 55,350 cc of different blood types were collected by the Philippine National Red Cross, Zamboanga del Sur chapter on Sunday, July 1 during the kick off activity of Blood Donor’s Month celebration at the City Commercial Center (C3) here.

PRC administrator Hildaliza Muñoz said the blood were collected from the walk-in donors , employees of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), and from officers and men of the 53rd Infantry “Matapat” battalion at Camp Major David Sabido, Guipos, and 5th IB, in Upper Nilo, Tigbao, Zamboanga del Sur, respectively.

Muñoz said the month of July has been declared  as Blood Donor’s Month under Presidential Proclamation No. 1021 issued on June 9, 1997 with this year’s theme “Every Blood Donor is a Hero”.

Muñoz said July is a very special month where people will share their  blood to help those who are in need specially the poor.  “During this month, we will also give recognition to our blood donors who are actively supporting the mass blood donation program of the agency and this will be done during the culmination day,” Munoz explained.

Munoz thanked all the stakeholders who made an unselfish sacrifice for the benefit of many, and that the blood they have given will save the lives of others.

“I would like to express my profound thanks to all stakeholders specially the national and local government offices, civic organizations, and volunteers for actively supporting the activities.  I’m certain that without them the activities will not be successfully conducted,” Munoz said.

Muñoz also thanked the active support extended by the following: Aisah Hospital, Black Moon Riders, Demolay, Jamelarin Hospital, Pagadian Emergency Communication Services, Inc., Pagadian Metro Lions Club, Velocity Colours Team, ZAMSURECO-I, and Zamboanga del Sur Medical Center for joining the motorcade in the city’s major thoroughfares.

Meanwhile Muñoz said if people in the barangays will donate their blood regularly,  they would no longer ask blood replacement from their clients because there will be enough supply of blood in their blood bank. (ALT/GCC/PIA9-Zambosur)
