DIPOLOG CITY, JULY
11(PIA)---The
National Statistics Office in Zamboanga
del Norte is now conducting its second quarter Labor Force Survey with the
rider, the Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES) in the selected
barangays of the province. The survey is now going on until July 31, 2012.
Zamboanga
del Norte NSO Provincial Head Lilia Daan said the survey, which a nationwide
activity, aims to gather data on the demographic and socio-economic
characteristics of the population in the province.
The
forty-six(46) barangays are located in the cities of Dipolog and Dapitan and in
the municipalities of Sibutad, La Libertad, Sergio Osmeña, Piñan, Polanco,
Katipunan, Roxas, Jose Dalman, Sindangan, Siayan, Salug, Liloy, Gutalac,
Tampilisan, Sibuco, and Sirawai,
The
Labor Force Survey aims to provide quantitative framework for the preparation of
plans and formulation of policies affecting the labor market.
It
is also designed to collect information on: distribution of household
population fifteen (15) years old and over by employment status, by sex, and
age group; distribution of employed persons by major occupation group, major
industry group, class of worker, number of hours worked, highest grade
completed, and nature of employment by sex; distribution of under-employed
persons by total hours worked and; and distribution of unemployed persons by
age group.
The
survey also aims to provide information as basis for the formulation of
policies of policies and programs on the creation and generation of gainful
employment and livelihood opportunities; reduction of unemployment and
underemployment and enhance the welfare of a working person.
It
also provide statistics on level and trends of employment, un-employment and
under-employment. The result of the
survey will be used for the projection of future human resource, it helps in
the assessment of the potential human resource available and provide labor
statistics profile of the population across domains and socio-economic
group.
Together
with this Labor Force Survey is the Family Income and Expenditures Survey which
is already the sixteenth in the series. This survey gathers data on the income
distribution and levels of living and spending pattern of Filipino families.
The data obtained in this survey will be used to provide inputs in the
estimation of the country’s poverty threshold and incidence and will be the
basis of the government for its social and economic development planning and
decision-making.
This
activity of the NSO emanates from the Commonwealth Act 591 that authorizes the
agency to conduct such survey. NSO, thus enjoins the full cooperation of the
respondents to its interviewers who will visit their homes and supply them with
