DIPOLOG CITY, April 19 (PIA) - - The Provincial School Board (PSB) of Zamboanga del Norte chaired by Governor Rolando E. Yebes has decided to increase the monthly salary of secondary school teachers paid for by the province’s Special Education Fund (SEF) from P4,400.00 to P6,000.00 starting June this year.
This was announced by Governor Yebes during his recent State of the Province Address (SOPA) held at the Zamboanga del Norte
Convention and Exhibition Center (ZNCEC) here with municipal and provincial officials, heads of the different national government agencies (NGAs) based in the province, civic and religious leaders, non-government organizations (NGOs), Subanen leaders and others in attendance.

For several years, the “school board” teachers were only receiving a monthly pay of P4,400 and yet they were as loaded as the regular teachers of the Department of Education (DepED).
The provincial government purposely hired secondary teachers to be charged against the SEF to augment the teaching staff of secondary schools in the province.
It has been reported that a number of secondary schools especially the so-called “annexes and extensions” and other newly-opened high schools lack teachers. This prompted the provincial government to hire teachers to help the DepED address the education needs of the people.
Should there be teacher items available, these “school board” teachers are said to be given priority by DepED in the hiring of new teachers. (FPG/PIA-Zamboanga del Norte)
