ZAMBOANGA CITY, 15 March. (PIA 9) - - To further enhance delivery of social services, the city government has acquired a brand new 6-wheeler truck for use in disaster response, rescue and other operations in the city.
Mayor Celso Lobregat formally turned over the Isuzu Canter truck to City Social Welfare and Development Officer Francisco Barredo yesterday morning, a few minutes after it was delivered by the supplier.
Costing P1.5 million, the brand new truck will augment the 5-year old open truck assigned with the CSWDO.

Barredo said the new vehicle will be used for various purposes that include disaster response/ operations, transport support for indigents, rescue operations, rounding up of street children and mendicants as well as transport of deportees among others.
Funding for the purchase of the vehicle was taken from the capital outlay of the CSWDO.
The CSWDO is an agency that provides quality interventions and opportunities to the disadvantaged sector in the City through community organization and sustenance of people's participation toward self-management for them to become self-sufficient and self-reliant people living in freedom, justice, peace and harmony with the optimum productivity along with the present of well trained, capable, highly competent and committed service providers.
Last December, the CSWDO unveiled its newly constructed 2-storey building inside the government complex in Pettit Barracks, also intended to help accelerate the delivery of social services.
Social services get the highest allocation at 40% or P857 million of the total budget this year. (JPA/ SC/CIO/PIA- ZBST)
