DIPOLOG CITY, March 1 (PIA) – To improve the delivery of basic health services, the City Health Office (CHO) here headed by Dr. Cecilio P. Siglos has recently conducted a two-day training on primary health care for barangay health workers (BHWs).
Dr. Siglos reported that the first batch of BHWs to undergo said training came from barangays Sta. Isabel, Cogon, Turno, Diwan, Sta. Filomena, Biasong, Olingan and Sinaman.
The topics discussed during the training were maternal and child health, family planning, environmental sanitation, dental care, expanded program on immunization, personal hygiene, sexually transmitted infections (STI), herbal medicines, first aid and the roles and responsibilities of BHWs.
Siglos underscored the importance of promoting primary health care among the barangay folks to keep everyone in the community healthy. He also urged the BHWs to help educate the public about good health practices by spreading correct and relevant information and not dwell on some myths such as “taking a bath during menstruation makes one sick.”
The city health officer has expressed his gratitude to the BHWs for their significant role in promoting primary health care in their respective barangays. (FPG/PIA-Zamboanga del Norte)
