Pagadian City, Feb. 24 (PIA) – The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in collaboration with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) will conduct a survey in selected barangays in the region, on the knowledge and utilization of iodized salt among households on February 25 to 26, 2012.
The study aims to identify what is the present knowledge of the people towards iodized salt and the practice on the usage of iodized salt among household wives aged 18-65 years old in randomly selected barangays, through a survey method.
Moreover, to ascertain the supply, demand, and policy situation on iodized salt in the focus areas, the research will include law enforcement agencies, local health workers, salt manufacturers/producers, traders and distributors, a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) will also be conducted on February 27, 2012 at Anastacia Pensionne, this city.
The result of this study shall also be used as basis for the development plan for the promotion of the utilization of iodized salt.
In Region IX, areas to be surveyed are; Barangays Minaog and Sicayab in Dipolog City; Poblacion, Manukan and Siparok, Jose Dalman in Zamboanga del Norte. Barangay Veteran’s Village in Ipil and Guling, Diplahan, Zamboanga Sibugay. And in Zamboanga del Sur - Barangay Kalingayan in Dumalinao; Lower Pulacan in Labangan; Paradise in Ramon Magsaysay; Sagrada Familia in Tambulig and Barangays Danlugan, San Pedro and Lumbia in Pagadian City.
