ZAMBOANGA CITY, 22 Feb. (PIA 9) - - Good news for the jobless!
Close to 8,000 jobs in various fields will be open to applicants in this year’s Jobs Fair sponsored by the city government and private partners on February 24 as part of the 75th Dia dela Ciudad de Zamboanga celebration.
City Social Welfare and Development Officer Francisco Barredo, who is also the city’s Public Employment Services Office (PESO) manager, announced this yesterday, adding the Jobs Fair will be held at Plaza del Pilar from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
He said companies and job recruitment agencies from Manila will be participating in the whole-day Jobs Fair in addition to 17 local companies, 15 national and 6 international placement agencies.
Jobs such as company drivers, construction workers, nurses and other technical positions will be up for grab.
It will be recalled, the city had initiated four jobs fairs last year that facilitated the hiring of 1,156 qualified applicants, earning for Zamboanga City an award as the 2011 Regional Best PESO Performer.
Meanwhile, the city government through the City Tourism Office will conduct the 10th Achiever’s Night on Feb 24 at 7 p.m. at the Convention Center of Garden Orchid Hotel.
Also scheduled for Feb 24 as part the Diamond Anniversary of the city’s charter are the Declamation- Elementary Level and Oratorical- Tertiary Level for National Arts Month at WMSU Gym; opening of “Dia de Zamboanga 15th Celso L. Lobregat Cup Open Dart Tournament; opening of Cong. Erbie A. Fabian Cup Five Men/Ladies Bowling Tournament.
Tomorrow, Feb 22, the City Tourism Office will bring once again the Open-Cheer Dance Competition on its 10th year at the Vitaliano Agan Coliseum in Tetuan at 1 p.m. The activity is one of the crowd-drawers during the Dia de Zamboanga celebration.
The celebration will culminate on Feb 26 with a commemorative program at Joaquin F. Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex in Baliwasan at 3 p.m. It will be preceded with a grand parade from City Hall to the grandstand. (JPA/ V.Larato/CIO/PIA- ZBST)
