By Alfonso T. Ruda

DIPOLOG CITY - The Zamboanga del Norte Police Provincial Office (ZNPPO) has spearheaded on Saturday “Lakaw Para sa Kalinaw” (walk for peace) to highlight the National Crime Prevention Week and the National Peace Month celebration in the city.

The activity, which aimed to drum up security awareness among the public, started at 5:00 a.m. from Plaza Magsaysay to Dipolog City Boulevard, followed by a short program.

In his welcome remarks, ZNPPO Provincial Director, PSSupt. James B. Mejia assured that the police are always committed and ready to serve and protect the lives and properties of the people.

Mejia cited the importance of public cooperation in the maintenance of peace and order in the community.

“The maintenance of peace and order is not only the responsibility of the police but also of the people living in the community by reporting to the police any suspicious-looking persons spotted in the area. It is only through this that we can prevent the bad elements from implementing their bad intentions in the community,” Mejia pointed out.

The police official also noted as a big factor for maintaining peace and order the close coordination between the police and the military in the province specifically the 101st Infantry Brigade based at del Pilar, Piñan, Zamboanga del Norte.

Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Tourism Officer Joshua Bicoy, who represented Governor Roberto Uy and Dipolog City Mayor Evelyn Uy who were both on official travel, congratulated the ZNPPO for spearheading the activity as he reiterated the appeal of the military and the police to the public to cooperate with the authorities for the attainment of a peaceful and orderly community.

Other than the regular members of the ZNPPO, the students from the different schools, officials and employees of national line agencies, non-government organizations and the children of police personnel also joined the activity. (PIA9)
