STATEMENT OF MAYOR BENG CLIMACO/CMC as of 5PM (9-10-13)

The imposition of curfew in Zamboanga City will continue starting at 8 tonight until 5am tomorrow, September 11.

Suspension of classes in all levels, both public and private, will also continue and all schools will remain closed tomorrow.

City Government operations will resume tomorrow and heads of national agencies are also encouraged to evaluate the possibility of resumption of work.   

Operation of banking institutions will be upon discretion of management in coordination with Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP). 

We urge business establishments to be opened starting tomorrow except those in affected areas which will be upon the discretion of the owners/ operators. We likewise appeal to business establishments to ensure that prices of commodities remain stable. The buying public is also advised not to resort to panic buying but purchase provisions enough for the day to prevent shortage of supplies. 

The main public market will remain closed but the Sta. Cruz market and the Bagsakan center will be opened starting tomorrow. 

At least 15 evacuation centers have been set up to temporarily house evacuees from the affected barangays. The biggest evacuation center is the Joaquin Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex in Baliwasan. 

To ensure continuous supply for the mounting number of evacuees, we encouraged donation of cooked meals or foods that can easily be cooked such as rice, noodles, sardines and water as well as milk, clothing, blankets and mats, sanitary pads and underwear. Please course all your donations to the command center under the supervision of City Administrator Antonio Orendain Jr. at the City Council or the designated drop off centers such as Ateneo de Zamboanga and Claret School.
