ZAMBOANGA CITY - Over 12 thousand evacuees now housed at the Juaquin Enriquez Jr. Memorial Grandstand is overwhelming, prompting the city officials to strategize in the distribution of relief goods to spare the evacuees from unnecessary long queues.
City councilor Josephine Pareja of this city’s first district said in an interview she was assigned to handle food distribution today. She earlier met with the DSWD team to plan out and ensure orderly distribution of food ration.
She said smooth and orderly distribution of goods can be expected today, after assessing the food delivery system during the first two days which was found wanting.
“Now we have crafted a system in which the distribution of food ration will be made by barangays and special lanes are also designated for women, children and the elderly,” she added.
Portable toilets will also be installed in the area.
Pressed for her reaction to complaints hurled by the evacuees against city officials, Pareja appealed for their patience and understanding, as” the city officials are doing their best to respond to this crisis.”
She also asked the evacuees to help in keeping the grandstand clean.
To date, evacuees come from eight affected barangays, namely, Rio Hondo, Sta Barbara, Arena Blanco, Lustre, Mariki, Mampang, Zone 4, and Talon-talon. (PIA9)
