DIPOLOG
CITY - Zamboanga del Norte Police Provincial Office (ZNPPO)
acting provincial director, P/Supt. James B. Mejia has called on the public to
help the Philippine National Police(PNP) in its campaign against illegal
gambling.
He
also enjoined the municipal police chiefs in the province’s 25 municipalities
to strengthen their anti-illegal gambling campaign within their respective
areas.
Mejia
made his appeal following the relief of 92 police officials in various parts of
the country as ordered by Police Director-General Allan Purisima for their
failure to curb illegal gambling in their areas of responsibility.
Purisima
said “this is in line with the PNP’s ‘One Strike Policy’ against illegal
gambling.”
“The
92 PNP officials were immediately relieved from their posts for failure to act
against illegal gambling, particularly, jueteng,” Purisima added.
Under
the PNP’s Letter of Instruction No. 27/2012, otherwise known as the “One Strike
Policy,” one successful raid by the non-organic unit proving the existence of illegal
gambling operations within a municipality shall result to the relief of the
chief of police and station commanders.
The
relief of three chiefs of police in a province or chartered City shall cause
the relief of the provincial or city police director.
The
regional director, on the other hand, will be relieved from his post when two
subordinate provincial or city directors have been relieved.
“The
PNP has to enforce the law without fear or favor and will double its efforts by
conducting sustained operations to eradicate jueteng and other forms of illegal
gambling and further apprehend suspected jueteng operators and financiers,” the
Director-General stressed.
