Zamboanga del Sur, June 26 (PIA) – To ensure food security through palay
procurement, the National Food Authority (NFA) Provincial Office based in Pagadian
City conducted Ugnayan with Farmers last Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at Glupa Gulian
AgroTourism Park, Sitio Quibranza, Barangay Kahayagan, this municipality.
It was attended by 100 farmers
representing the 28 barangays of Bayog, personnel of the Municipal
Agriculturist Office (MAO), and some local officials.
The team was led by NFA Provincial Operations
Officer Cita Loreto who discussed the Mandate
of NFA; Programs of NFA, by Rey Mañacap,
Officer In-Charge of NFA-Molave, Zamboanga del Sur; Quality Assurance by Malou
Lian, Provincial Investigator and Yoleeh
Dumaguit; while Provincial Engineer Hope Coyme, conversed on the Mechanical Drier.
SB Member Celso Matias gave the welcome message in behalf of
Mayor Leonardo Babasa, Jr. He expressed
his thanks and gratitude to the personnel of NFA for holding such activity. He believed
that whatever programs of NFA are
beneficial to the farmers.
Rey Mañacap, explained that they came
to Bayog, because their mandate so
requires which is to stabilize staple
cereal supply and prices. He also informed the participants, that
NFA will establish a buying station in the municipality so that it will be easier
for the farmers to sell their farm produce. The farmers were so happy about it.
After the Ugnayan, the NFA personnel
went to see Mayor Babasa. The latter is very receptive of their plan and assured them that whatsoever activities
they will bring to this municipality as long as it is for the good of his
constituents, his administration will surely support it, Babasa emphasized.
