DIPOLOG CITY, June
4 (PIA) - - Classes at all levels of public elementary and secondary schools in
Zamboanga del Norte have formally started today, according to Provincial
Schools Division Superintendent Sunny Ray F. Amit.
In a phone
interview with the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) this morning, Amit said
all public school teachers have reported to their respective schools for the
official opening of classes for school year, 2012-2013.
Amit, however,
disclosed that the schools are still accommodating pupils and students who
failed to enroll during the enrolment period.
When asked whether
the schools were ready for the start of the implementation of the K to 12 basic
education program, Amit said the province may encounter shortage of
kindergarten teachers and classrooms this year.
The government
through the Department of Education (DepED, is implementing starting this
school year the K to 12 basic education program as the Philippines was the only
nation in Asia with a 10-year basic education cycle.
Under the K to 12
system, kindergarten has been made compulsory in elementary education and two
more years are added in high school.
The provincial
schools superintendent also told the PIA that only those teachers who had
undergone training on K to 12 would handle grade I and first year high school.
The K to 12 basic
education is designed to equip high school graduates with the knowledge and
skills that will make them employable even if they do not pursue college
education. (FPG/PIA-Zamboanga del Norte)
