Deparment of Labor and Employment Regional Director and Board Chairman Sisinio B. Cano said Proclamation No. 159 issued by President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino in 2011 launched the Philippine Road Safety Action Plan for the next ten years.
In response, DOLE Secretary Rosalinda D. Baldoz issued Administrative Order No. 182 creating the DOLE-TWG to study the working conditions and compensation schemes in the bus transport sector. A survey was also conducted among drivers, conductors and human resource managers of bus lines plying Metro Manila.
Results of the survey revealed the need to improve terms and conditions of work in the public bus transport as one of the immediate and recognized interventions, in addition to initiatives of other agencies and long term measures.
RD Cano said the conference will facilitate the formulation, adoption and implementation of such measures that shall promote public transport safety in this part of the country. (ALT-PIA9/Zambo Sur)
