Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur , Mar 9 (PIA) – To enable its constituents to anticipate disasters and prepare them how to take actions in protecting lives and properties and to ensure sustainable social and economic development, the local government unit of Bayog under the stewardship of Mayor Leonardo Babasa, Jr., conducted a two-day Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation seminar-workshop on March 5-6, 2012 at Glupa Gulian Eco Park, Sitio Quibranza, Kahayagan, this municipality.
Facilitated by Gualberto Largo, Social Action Ministry Coordinator, Jerome Yao, SAM Education Program Officer, Rogelio Plamiano, Jr., SAM Research, Documentation, Monitoring and Evaluation Officer, all from the Diocese of Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.
Topics discussed were: Science of Climate Change; Global Warming and Climate Change; Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation; Climate Change Law; Understanding Hazards of Disasters; Millenium Development Goals; Disaster Risk Reduction Act of 2010; LGU Planning and Budgeting and Planning and Evaluation.
Some 80 participants from barangays Baking, Camp Blessing, Dagum, Datagan, Kanipaan, Matun-og and Supon attended the training. Each barangays were represented by 11 participants, composed of the barangay chairman, seven (7) barangay kagawads, barangay secretary, barangay treasurer and barangay agricultural technician.
This training is the 2nd batch and tentative schedules of the same training to another sets of barangays will be on March 14-15, 2012 and March 16-17, 2012 respectively. The first batch composed of another seven barangays was conducted last December 2011 at the same venue. (BAG/PIA9/CAL)
