DIPOLOG CITY, Feb. 10 (PIA) – The city council here headed by Vice Mayor Senen O. Angeles has recently passed a resolution giving the chief executive a go signal to conduct an employment/livelihood summit to address the unemployment problem in the city.
City councilor James Cyril O. Ruiz, author of the resolution, said the employment summit would also seek to find out the employment situation in the city in order to come up with a comprehensive plan to open up employment opportunities for the city populace as well as those coming from the neighboring towns.
Ruiz saw the need to provide employment opportunities to many jobless individuals who, despite the difficulty in finding jobs, still strive to survive.
“The Conditional Cash Transfer” (CCT) program of the government could not solve poverty as it is only temporary. We need to empower our people through skills training to make them productive,” Ruiz stressed.
The city council also appealed to the national government agencies (NGAs), non-government organizations (NGOs) and other local government units (LGUs) to assist in providing job opportunities to the public. (FPG/PIA-Zamboanga del Norte)
