DIPOLOG CITY, Feb. 14 (PIA) - - “Dugo mo, kinabuhi ko.”
This is the campaign slogan of the Philippine National Red Cross-Zamboanga del Norte (PNRC-ZN) chapter that draws people to donate blood to save lives.
The same slogan, which literally means “your blood, my life,” has been plastered at the lobby of Lee Plaza Central, as the PNRC-ZN held here a bloodletting activity to collect blood for patients requiring blood transfusion.
PNRC-ZN Administrator Joshua Bicoy told the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) that his team has targeted to collect 150 bags of blood in today’s bloodletting event.
Thirty one bags of blood were collected an hour after the bloodletting activity started at 10 a.m. today.
Blood donors who came to support the campaign were composed of policemen, soldiers, students, young professionals, public and private employees, medical workers, security guards and many others.
PNRC-ZN board chairperson Engr. Socorro U. Hamac said: “You don’t have to be a doctor to save life. Just donate blood.” Blood is the most important commodity for a man to live, yet it cannot be manufactured, declared Hamac.
The bloodletting activity was assisted by volunteer medical technologists and nurses who are also blood donors themselves.
It was also learned that plaques of appreciation would be awarded to five volunteer organizations supportive of PNRC-ZN’s blood campaign program, namely, the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) units, City Health Services of Dapitan City, 44th IB, PA based in Sirawai, Zamboanga del Norte, 18th IB, PA based in Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte and the reservists group.
