PAGADIAN CITY, December 13 (PIA) - - Board Member Ernesto Mondarte of the First District of Zamboanga del Sur has filed  Resolution No. 2k11-599 seeking to ask the DFA to extend immediate legal assistance to the 3 Filipino fishermen who were captured in Indonesia last month.

Mondarte, Chairman of the SP Committee on Fire, Public Safety, Peace and Order asked Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto del Rosario to extend immediate legal assistance and other vital needs of the three fishermen.

The three were caught by Indonesian authorities on November 9 for fishing encroachment on the waters of the said country, in spite of the Global Positioning System (GPS) on the Filipino fishing boat indicating that they were still inside Philippine waters.

Four of the seven fishermen captured were released upon consideration that they were married, while the 3, including the owner of the fishing boat were detained in an undisclosed place in Indonesia.

The three were identified as Ramil Miranda, the boat owner, married, with 4 children who hails from Pagadian City, Mark Johnny Yator, 21 years old and Lady Boy Prenciona, 18 years of age.

Board Member Vicente Cajeta, Vice Chairman of the same committee said they are plain and simple fishermen trying to earn a living who have no other means to seek legal and moral support in the foreign land. (ALT-PIA9/ZamboSur)
