Dec. 13 (PIA9) - - Far flung barangays of the city will soon enjoy potable
water as the city government of Zamboanga and the Zamboanga City Water District
(ZCWD) forged yesterday a P48.7million barangay water projects.
“The city government and our water district
yesterday forged five (5) agreements for the implementation of five (5) barangay water system projects that will
expand water service to thousands of households in almost 20 barangays in the
city,” shared City Information Officer (IO) Sheila Covarrubias.
“The city is spending some P48.74 million
for the 5 water system projects in line with its commitment to help the ZCWD
expand its services to far flung barangays. The amount will cover the supplying
and laying of distribution lines and other materials,” Covarrubias detailed.
The lady IO said, “the ZCWD, represented by
General Manager Leonardo Vasquez in the agreement, is spending a similar amount
which will cover the labor cost and other materials.”
The signing ceremony, held at the City Hall
conference room yesterday afternoon, was witnessed by the officials of the
barangay-beneficiaries.
Covarrubias said the agreements signed
include the construction/ rehabilitation/ improvement of water system at
Patalon with an estimated cost of P1.59 million; construction/ rehabilitation
and installation of Cacao-Lapakan-Cabaluay water system with an estimated cost
of P2.63 million; construction/ rehabilitation/ improvement of
Tictapul-Licomo-Vitali water system with an estimated cost of P2.63 million;
construction/ rehabilitation/ improvement of Mangga
Bolong-Bolong-Bungiao-Sangali water system with an estimated cost of P5.33
million; construction/ rehabilitation/ improvement of
Dumalon-Zambales-Baluno-Capisan-Malagutay-San
Roque-Calarian-Cawit-Sinunuc-Maasin water system with an estimated cost of
P33.744 million.
Covarrubias said Lobregat and Vasquez gave
their assurance to the barangay officials concerned that they will hire
laborers from the barangay or community where the projects will be implemented
“ Laborers to be hired during the
implementation of the projects will be taken from the barangays where the projects
are located,” Covarrubias said.
“Mayor Lobregat said more projects will be
implemented next year to ensure water supply in the different barangays of the
