DOST announces call for 2013 MECO-TECO research proposals

PAGADIAN CITY, Feb. 4 (PIA) - - Interested researchers, scientists, professors and other stakeholders can now start submitting their research/project proposals under the Manila Economic and Cultural Office-Taiwan Economic and Cultural Office (MECO-TECO) Science and Technology Cooperation to the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

 A press release issued recently by the regional office of DOST-IX said that the project proposals must fall under these identified areas of cooperation, namely, Genomics, Nanotechnology, and Biotechnology in application to Agriculture and Health (e.g. Health – Dengue Virus including drug discovery and development, development of nano-based diagnostics based on cold and chemiluminescent detection of Dengue Virus; Agriculture – nanomaterials for agricultural applications, biodiversity and conservation and crop/aquatic stock improvement/safety); climate change, environment, geosciences/geohazards and tectonics; and use of sensors towards “Smart Cities.”

Only proposals that are approved by the DOST and the National Science Council (NSC) of Taipei will be implemented under this cooperation by the 3rd quarter of 2013. 


The proponents with approved proposals shall receive funding support from the DOST and NSC.


Modes of cooperation include joint research / study, exchange of scientists / technical experts, capacity building, scientific and technical access to facilities, provision of professional services, organization of scientific conferences, symposia, training courses, workshops and exhibitions and the Sandwich Scholarship Program (SSP).
