PAGADIAN
CITY, November 8 (PIA) – - Close to 100 students
from selected public and private colleges and secondary schools in Pagadian City participated in the 2-day training on Disaster Risk Reduction Management conducted
recently by the Philippine Red Cross (PRC), Zamboanga del Sur chapter at the
Universidad De Zamboanga, barangay Tiguma.
Chapter
Red Cross youth (RCY) service representative Luther Villaflores, Jr. said the
training was aimed at equipping the youth on risk reduction management, and for them to be
ready with prompt and efficient response to the communities at the time of
disaster.
“We
trained them not only to respond in time of disasters in their schools but also
in their respective barangays,” Villaflores explained.
Villaflores
said participants were given trainings on first aid, basic life support and
cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, swimming, and etc., to give them confidence to
respond in an emergency situation with their skills that can save life.
“Kini nga
pagbansay-bansay nga among gisalmutan nakatabang kanamo nga RCYC members pagkat-on
ug kahibalo sa natad sa disaster risk reduction and management,” (The
training that we have attended has helped us RCYC members to learn on the field
of disaster risk reduction and management),” said RCY member Paul Cabual.
“Ang among nakat-onan ning maong pagbansaybansay amo dayon
kini nga ipaambit sa katawhan tungod kay ang among mga kaakuhan isip mga
batan-on mahinungdanon kaayo sa pagluwas sa kinabuhi sa mga tawo,” (The
things that we’ve learned in this training will be immediately shared to the
public because our role as youth is very
vital in saving the lives of the people),” said Cabual who is a firm believer
of the Dr. Jose Rizal’s saying the “youth is the hope of the motherland”. (JPA/GCC/PIA,Pagadian City )
